From Bad to Worse

Here I was talking about how Arod has changed the game of baseball with his antics.  How utterly tired, disgusted and disappointed I was with the whole steroid issue in baseball.  The only thing that I was glad about, was that Arod is not a Blue Jay and I’m not a Yankee fan.

However, all that changed today as I am shamed and dissappointed to be a Roberto Alomar fan right now.  If you thought taking steroids was bad, try this one for size.  It is so dispicable
Thumbnail image for alomar_arms_getty_260[1] copy.jpgthat I will not even mention it in this post (if it is true).  I’ll put it this way, Alomar used to have a popular McCain frozen concentrated fruit juice commercial where he excited said at the end of the commerical, “catch the taste!’  You don’t want to know what he has been making people catch these days. Ugggghhh!!!  I’m having a hard time writing this actually.  We all knew Alomar had a bad side, as evidence from the umpire spitting incident and couple other things I can’t think of off hand, I did not think he was this bad.  If this is true, once again, all respect for Alomar is lost.

I feel embarrassed promoting him as the ‘greatest Blue Jay of all-time’ in previous posts.  I also feel embarrassed for my favorite team.  Probably the two most amazingly great teams of my time (the 92-93 World Champion Toronto Blue Jays).  Alomar was a huge part of what got the Jays to where they were in those years.

I maintained a great respect for Alomar, being a fan, even through all of his shortcomings.  Now I feel like a piece of dirt for promoting the player that he was.  Out of principle, I’m dropping Alomar on my ‘greatest Jays of all-time’ list, if this is true.  Other Jays fans should do the same if you based your criteria for the list on more than production.

Sad day for me in Blue Jay land.  Quite frankly, I wish he had taken steroids because this is atrocious.  PLEASE DO NOT BE TRUE!!  ROBBIE SAY IT AIN’T SO!!!

I talked about Alomar today in my blog. I don’t know if he did what she’s accusing him of doing, but if it makes you feel any better about the situation, I HIGHLY doubt this lawsuit will go through. I don’t see any judge with any sanity allowing this to proceed.

It’s not just you man I think in every baseball fans heart is the fear of hearing about a favorite player who could have been using. I want this all to be over but I keep thinking it’s going to be a long time before this blows over. Sadly.

Hey – just remember – the game we love will survive because we fans will see to it! These idiots have relatively short careers compared to the lifetime of a fan. We will make it better – sadly it will just take some time. Keep the faith!

Definately Jen! A lot of your points do make me feel a whole lot better about the situation. I’m glad that you pointed those out.

Even if the case is thrown out, just that this story was leaked is embarrassing for Alomar. She might be a crazed, money-grabbing idiot like you say. There are certainly indications that favor your point. I feel a little more at ease now, thank you.

Being part of the ordinary news reading public, I sometimes just get caught in the severity of the headlines. It is a pretty awful thing though, if true.

Tom, Julia – I’m pretty sick of all this as well!

I’d reserve judgement until all the facts come out. As Jen points out, many of these lawsuits are frivolous. We’ll see how this one turns out, but in the meantime he’s still a player you enjoyed watching. Nothing can change that.

There was a column about him in today about the allegations, and they contacted his father, who knew nothing of the illness or the lawsuit.

Sounds like there will be some burning of the phone lines tonight to get all of this sorted out. I could call this bad timing, since he will be up for his first test for the Hall of Fame in 2010.

Nothing like timing to put doubt and B S in peoples mind for the entire season. Also hated that he quit on the Rays when he was told Jorge Cantu was going to be the starting second baseman. Guess the fact he was not starting shook him up a lot.

I couldn’t agree with you more. This news crushed me, being that Alomar was my biggest sports hero through my high school baseball days. I even played second base because of him. It’s so hard to tell what is true these days, but nothing would surprise me anymore. If true, then all respect is lost!! Dave Stieb just got bumped up to number 1!
